The erratic rains this summer had the zebra migration stay in the Boteti area long into the rainy season. I dont remember seeing zebra concentrations like this before in January and February. A good week of rain fell in mid February, which allowed the zebra to tear themselves away from the pools along the Boteti. Chris Brookes, the migration researcher, saw them in the southern portion of the Makgadikgadi Pans NP. He also told me he had seen herds of cattle well into this area of the park, perhaps also in search of the rain-filled pans and new grass that sprouts quickly after rain.
