THE OKAVANGO FLOOD

I recently did a safari into the Okavango Delta, I planned it over the last six months or so. The two-week safari included a five-day trans Okavango boating safari that required camping on islands along the Okavango River. I never anticipated the highest levels of water since 1984 to reach the delta here in the Kalahari wilderness of Botswana back in the early stages of planning the trip. Turner and Ashley Inscoe arrived from the USA right when the river was at its highest levels. All the islands we were to camp on were under water! I did think the papyrus along the riverbank was somewhat shorter than I remember. They werent shorter, we were boating on the river several metres higher! I have never seen the river with this much water.
