PLEASE NOTE!

Please be aware that when visiting our site, the Boteti River has since flowed for the first time in almost twenty years.  This is very exciting for us and the wildlife of the national parks and is a positive development in every way for our safari operations and wildlife conservation efforts.  I will be updating our website as soon as possible. – David Dugmore
Meno A Kwena Tented Camp & Safaris PDF Print E-mail

Meno A Kwena Tented Camp & Safaris origins go back to 1800s Africa! It is therefore our assumption that safaris are an all encompassing experience, a bit like the production of a film. The key to a successful safari is in the planning stages. This website is designed to cover every detail possible to help our guests and agents plan the ultimate African safari adventure!

Meno A Kwena Tented Camp & Safaris operates out of our base camp on the banks of the Boteti Riverbed, (dry since 1995). During periods of above average rainfall, the Boteti River is one of the few drainage systems that carry the Okavango floodwaters out of this, the largest inland delta in the world, to flow into the deepest mantle of sand on the planet, the Kalahari Desert. The Boteti River lies right in the middle of these great vast thirstlands where water is priceless and so attracting some of Africa's last remaining great wildlife populations.

OUR MISSION

Our experience has shown that responsible sustainable safari tourism is crucial to the conservation of wildlife and its habitats only if it maximises benefits and involvement of the citizens of Africa.

Our guests play a significant role in our vision to preserve wildlife as we endeavour to educate and involve the people of Africa in what they still consider to be an underrated natural resource.

WILDLIFE CONSERVATION & COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Meno A Kwena Tented Camp has initiated the Water for Life Trust to coordinate our sustainable tourism developments, community involvement & wildlife conservation projects.

SAFARI PLANNING

Getting Here & Location

Meno A Kwena Tented Camp is undeniably the most accessible safari Camp by road in the Kalahari and Okavango. This important advantage allows us to remain a lot more competitive than most destinations as we don't have to rely on expensive air charter flights.

The road transfer takes guests to one of Africa's most spectacular wildlife concentrations just one and half hours drive from Botswana's safari tourism capital, Maun. International flights into Johannesburg South Africa connect to the, less than one hour Air Botswana schedule flight, to Maun.

When to Travel

The Tropic of Capricorn passes through southern Botswana and so our drought prone climate is influenced by temperate weather.  The dry season is June to October when wildlife concentrates at scarce surface water.  The coldest time of year is July to September when night temperatures sometimes drop to freezing and days are sunny and warm.

The summer rains can start as early as October to fall until June when localised tropical thunder showers predominate.  Summer temperatures rise to the high 40 degrees Celsius in October.  Wildlife tends to disperse away from permanent surface water, moving to richer pastures in the Kalahari where rain-filled pans sustain them during the peak breeding season.

Accommodation

Meno A Kwena Tented Camp has 8 tents accommodating up to just 16 guests at a time.  The company is owner operated and so personal attention to detail is maintained by David Dugmore who has a lifetime background in African safaris.  The ultimate luxury accommodation of an African safari is watching endless herds of wildlife drinking at the waterhole from a canvas tent.  Or a shower in full view of the setting sun as the first roar of a lion echoes through the riverbed below.  It is these luxuries that enhance the authentic safari tented camp comforts of home.”
